Philadelphia Flyers writer Jamey Baskow recently brought up an interesting point suggesting that the Flyers should consider signing one or more of the available college free agents this season. Among the potential targets Baskow highlighted were TJ Hughes from Michigan and Austen Swankler from Bowling Green.
Swankler, who played center and is 21 years old, averaged more than a point per game during the past season, making him an attractive prospect. Hughes, also a center and aged 21, was just shy of a point per game. Both players are relatively undersized, standing at 5'11 and 6'0 respectively, but have shown impressive skill and talent on the ice.
As the Flyers look to strengthen their roster and make a push towards their rebuild, signing promising young free agents could be a smart strategy. It remains to be seen whether they will take Baskow's advice and pursue either Swankler or Hughes, but it is certainly worth considering these options for the future.
