In the 2017 NHL Entry draft's first round, the Philadelphia Flyers may have made an incorrect choice with their draft pick. They opted for Mogan Frost (27th) and Isaac Ratcliffe (35th) in that draft year.

However, if they had traded up in the draft, they could have selected a franchise goalie instead.
Jake Oettinger Thought He Was Coming to Chicago on Draft Day
«There's no way Philly passes up on Oettinger at 27» and they did..
«I thought it was going to be Chicago honestly before they traded it,» he said. «I had a great relationship with their minor league goalie coach and he was saying I'm going to do everything I can to have us pick you.' But when Dallas traded up for me I mean it was the perfect spot.»

The Dallas Stars made a strategic move by trading up to the 26th pick in the draft ahead of the Flyers, selecting Jake Oettinger instead.
The trade only required a 3rd round pick at the time, allowing the Chicago Blackhawks to acquire Andrei Altybarmakyan who later had a brief stint in AHL Rockford. This highlights Ron Hextall's lack of action in similar situations.
