The Pittsburgh Penguins acquired Karel Plasek and Jack Rathbone from the Vancouver Canucks in a big trade.

Apparently, the Penguins are working salary cap magic as they terminated Karel Plasek's contract just a day after the trade.
Karel Plasek -- acquired yesterday by PIT from VCR -- is on unconditional waivers for purposes of contract termination

The 23-year-old Plasek was in the final year of his $846K NHL entry-level contract with the Vancouver Canucks.
Pittsburgh Penguins now have a contract spot open and some cap flexibility, but how much?
The Penguins have acquired defenseman Jack Rathbone and forward Karel Plasek from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for Mark Friedman and Ty Glover.
As a result, the team acquired Rathbone for Friedman, which seemed to be the biggest change of all. Dubas didn't seem content with taking on another contract, despite originally accepting Plasek in the trade.
