There's a lot of chatter about the 2022 NHL Draft being weak. However, this is possibly not the case at all.
When we think about it, there's a big comparison to make between this year's class and the one in 2014. There's an exceptional player from the OHL who is projected to be the first overall pick. People seem to be underwhelmed about this year's draft because it seems like the one next season is going to be incredible. Also, some are wondering if the projected first overall pick (who was Ekblad in 2014) can successfully transition into the NHL.
In the case of the Flyers, they selected Travis Sanheim 17th overall in 2014. This pick turned out to be pretty good, as he's a regular on the team's Top-4.
With the 5th overall pick this year, the Flyers will certainly have the opportunity to select an excellent player. If Shane Wright and Logan Cooley seems to be the favorite to be selected first and second, one of Juraj Slafkovsky, Simon Nemec, David Jiricek and Matthew Savoie will certainly be still available when the Flyers will be called to make their pick.
