Philadelphia Flyers are struggling. This is a season to forget for the fans since their team sits at the bottom of the league and the injuries (including covid-19 protocols) are a huge concern. Even though playoffs hopes are over, the Flyers could be building an exciting team for the seasons to come if they make room for more salary cap space by getting rid of some players. Here are a list of the players GM Chuck Fletcher could be looking to trade before deadline day, on March 21st.
James Van Riemsdyk- Left Wing
With a current salary of about $7 million a year, JVR is the ghost of the player he was at Toronto. With only 18 points in 46 games, he's on his way to have the worst season of his career, miles away from the +50 points seasons he averaged 4 times during his time with the Leafs.
JVD will also be a free agent at the end of the 2022-2023 season. A possible move toward Calgary with either
Johnny Gaudreau, who grew up as a Flyers fan, or
Nikita Zadorov upcoming free agent this year, could be happening with some assets going the Flames way of course.

Brassard currently has 11 points in 20 games for the Flyers, he has not played much due to injuries. When not injured, he has everything to be a
great addition to any team in the league.
With a very small salary of $825,000 a year and a talent for power play goals (153 out of his 193 career goals), Brassard could be traded to playoffs contender teams. But let's not fool ourselves there : the only way the return for him could be great is if he is included in a package deal. If he's traded alone, a 3rd or 4th round pick could make the trick to acquire him.
Hayes embodies the Philadelphia Flyers injury curse. The man who never played a full season in the NHL is currently on a contract until 2026 averaging $7,100,000 a year. His return date is not set, and his season could be over since he may need other surgical procedures.
His lack of ice time and his not-so-great stats since joining the Flyers are more than enough reason to let him go. He has the skills to fit lots of teams in the NHL, especially ones with lots of young players where he could stand as a veteran to bring balance and experience in the squad. His salary is still a problem, so if he was traded, the Flyers could be asked to retain some salary.
Martin Jones Goaltender
Backup goaltender Martin Jones could be one to leave on a trade in the coming month. With 2.64 GAA and .908 save percentage, Jones would be a good acquisition to any team looking to strengthen their squad and their depth for the play-offs to come. Let's not forget that a .908 save percentage with Philadelphia's defense is somehow pretty decent.
Sending Jones to a playoff team in exchange of draft picks or a young prospect is a win-win for everyone, especially the Flyers who are in a desperate need of fresh talents and who will be looking to clear the ranks for the seasons to come. However, let's not forget that the Oilers tried to acquire Jones. They proposed a 5th round pick to Fletcher but he declined the offer. We can think that the Flyers could obtain a 3rd pick for their goaltender.
