Wayne Gretzky calls out Flyers head coach John Tortorella

Wayne Gretzky is a living legend, a four-time Stanley Cup champion, and has retired to provide commentary and analysis for the NHL like John Tortorella did at one point.

He was asked today if he would consider playing for a coach like John Tortorella.
There is a possibility that Gretzky would interject that he might not consider doing so.

In light of the talent flight that's taken place under Tortorella, Gretzky has reason to be concerned. In 2019, The Great One also forgot to consider how well he turned a slightly above-average Columbus Blue Jackets team into a wrecking ball.
Tortorella's systems are defensive in nature, and until recently did not allow much offensive freedom, except for Cam Atkinson and Artemi Panarin.
Wayne Gretzky is on the TNT panel for the Flyers game tonight and was just asked if he could play for John Tortorella, Gretzky said «probably not
Gretzky would probably hesitate to play for Tortorella, which is why he thrived under coaches like Glenn Sather, Tom Webster, and Barry Melrose in a different era of hockey.
Mike Keenan, the prototype for Tortorella, was coaching in St. Louis at the time, which might be another reason why he left.
John Tortorella has changed his approach under Danny Briere, allowing younger players more ice time and development.
