So far this summer New York Islanders General Manager Lou Lamoriello has struck out this off-season trying to improve his club for the upcoming season. Lamoriello tried to sign both Johnny Gaudreau and Nazem Kadri but had zero luck.

Lamoriello did re-sign some of his restricted free agents earlier in the week signing, Kieffer Bellows, Noah Dobson and newly acquired defenseman Alex Romanov all to extensions. However, Islanders fans have been worried their best player Matt Barzel who's heading into the final year of his current contract.
Thankfully for the Islanders Barzel will still be a restricted free agent and not a unrestricted one so they don't have to worry about him pulling a Jonn Tavares and walking out of the franchise, but Barzel will be expecting a raise and fans are hoping that
Lamoriello will sign their only star player long-term and doesn't cheap out.

Lamoriello has always kept his cards close to his chest when trying to negotiate deals, but according to Andrew Gross of NewsDay.com, Lamoriello straight up refused to comment on wether a new contract is being worked on with superstar soon-to-be RFA, Matthew Barzal causing Islanders fans to concern to grow.
Lamoriello also has to be careful because after the Montreal Canadiens and Carolina Hurricanes pulled out the old school offer sheet tactics other Gm's might do the same.
The Islanders drafted Barzel back in the first round of the 2015 NHL draft 16th overall. Barzel has 91 goals, and 220 assists, in 362 games with the Islanders
