What The Flyers Can Learn From the Devils 10-game Winning Streak

The New Jersey Devils are as hot as an NHL team can be. They are currently sitting in first place in the Metro Division with a 13-3 record. They started the season rather ordinary with a 3-3 record. Since then, they have won 10 games in a row.

So, what can the Philadelphia Flyers learn from the Devils current winning ways? One needs to examine the statistics to see the difference in the two teams performances.
The Devils are third in the NHL in average goals scored with a 3.75 mark. The Flyers rank 30th with just 2.56 goals a game. As the old adage goes, you can't win games without scoring goals.
In the goals against statistic, the Devils again place third with a stellar 2.44 goals allowed per game. The Flyers are 13th allowing 3.00 goals a game.

Special teams are essential also and when we look at the two teams in this category things become clear.
The New Jersey club has a 20.8 percent success rate on the power play. That places them 17th. The Flyers have a 17.3 percent, ranking them 26th.
The penalty kill stats show the Devils with a 80.8 percent success rate putting them 11th in the league. The Philadelphia club is 21st with a 76.0 percent mark.
When we examine the last 10 games which the Devils have won, it again shows that they are winning for a reason. They have scored 43 goals, while giving up just 17.
The Flyers have tallied 24 goals, while allowing 34.
Any NHL team can get on a winning streak. The Flyers are capable of doing it as well. Right now, they are suffering from injuries to key players. Every NHL team goes through it, and it just means others need to step up.
These two teams are headed in opposite directions. The Flyers have dropped four straight games, while the Devils are on a 10-game winning streak.
The Devils are being paced by three of their young players who are coming into their own. Jesper Bratt has six goals, 15 assists in 16 games. Jack Hughes has really progressed with seven goals, 11 assists in 16 games. Captain Nico Hischier has eight goals, nine assists in 15 games.
This trio has really been a significant ingredient to their success this season.
The Flyers have talented players as well. Travis Konecny has seven goals, 12 assists in 16 games.
What may help the Flyers, believe it or not is that they have head coach John Tortorella. He is strict, yes... but he gets results. When this team gets healthy again, watch them go on a winning streak.
