It has been less than 24 hours since the news broke that the Philadelphia Flyers have cut ties with Tony DeAngelo and placed him on unconditional waivers to be bought out.

The much-maligned defenseman has had a tough season, especially with head coach John Tortorella. General manager Danny Briere made the call that the team needed to move on, and after numerous weeks of looking for a trading partner, they decided to part ways.
The question that remains is where will DeAngelo land for the upcoming season. As a right-handed shot defenseman with offensive talent, it is expected that numerous teams will line up to try to acquire his services. I can see three teams eyeing him, including the Carolina Hurricanes, San Jose Sharks, and the Dallas Stars.

Carolina could be the most likely destination among the group, as DeAngelo played for them in the past. Although it was only for one season, he found chemistry with Brett Pesce. With the recent moves the Hurricanes have made, it appears they are loading up to make a deep run next year, and a player like DeAngelo could help them in their push.
As the San Jose Sharks continue to rebuild their team, many fans are waiting to see if Kyle Dubas of the Penguins will pull the trigger on a trade to bring Erik Karlsson to Pittsburgh. In the meantime, DeAngelo could help fill the void while the Sharks continue to recoup assets and draft picks.
The Stars could also be a possibility as they are looking to improve their right side of the defence core. With the departure of Colin Miller, a player like DeAngelo could benefit from playing with the Stars while he continues to regain his stock value.
The team also has the potential to make a deep playoff run next year, and acquiring him now would save them the cost of finding a defenseman at the trade deadline.
There is no question in my mind that DeAngelo will find a new home before the puck drop in Game One of the season. I believe the team that acquires him will only give him a one-year deal to see if he can pan out or not.
This player was bought out twice in his career, once by the New York Rangers and now by the Flyers. With a cap hit of $5 million last year, I don't expect his next deal to be higher than $2 million.
