Why Kevin Hayes wanted out of the Philadelphia Flyers
John Tortorella and Kevin Hayes were known to have had a strained relationship before the latter's exit from Philadelphia, and it wasn't a secret.
In the presence of Tortorella, who had Danny Briere's ear, it was not difficult to identify who was exerting influence over personnel decisions, and it was not just Briere.
Theoretically, it was envisioned that he would either be bought out or use his Rick Nash connections in order to land in Columbus, neither of which came to pass.
The eventual outcome was that he would be sent to St. Louis as a cap dump, with Briere and company taking half of his salary for the sake of a pick.

This team did not seem to be able to keep a lid tight on the locker-room problems, and it seems that the team is better off without Kevin Hayes to help them overcome the situation, while they make the necessary course corrections.
