As the Philadelphia Flyers season continues to progress into a potential playoff run, a number of stats have impressed analysts and fans. From leading the NHL in shorthanded goals to their penalty kill being renamed the "power kill", the Flyers have turned heads of many in the hockey community. Saturday night, another statistic was discovered as the Flyers lead the NHL in another category.
Despite the struggles in the power play to start the season, the Philadelphia Flyers now lead the NHL in power play goals by a rookie so far this season. As of Feb. 11, the Flyers have 5 power play goals scored by rookies.
That statistic is especially impressive, considering that they rank 31st out of 32 teams in the NHL on the power play, with a 13.2 success percentage. The Flyers have only scored 22 power play goals, but have allowed 23 goals while on the power play.
It is absolutely mind boggling to think that the Flyers lead the NHL in a power play category, considering how dismal the PP has been thus far in 2023-24. If the Flyers are serious about making a playoff run, they will really have to clean up the power play and take advantage of opportunities, especially considering the opponents they have coming up.
