"It's been a disaster of a season and it's come to an end for head coach Alain Vigneault. After a month that saw the Philadelphia Flyers go 6-10-1 while allowing a league high 4.41 goals per game and losing their hold on a playoff spot, Vigneault has been fired. General manager Chuck Fletcher made the announcement early this morning after the Flyers lost to the Buffalo Sabres 6-1 last night. It was a build of pressure and let down and management has made it clear they want a playoff appearance this year so watching his team give up 6 or more goals during the month of March was simply unacceptable considering they had only allowed 6 or more goals 5 times all of last season. Vigneault ends his tenure with the Flyers with a 58-35-11 record and enjoyed some success in the playoff bubble last year. While Fletcher gave him a vote of confidence earlier this month, it's clear that the head coach had lost the locker room. Fletcher is expected to announce either an interim head coach or new head coach later today. The new was originally reported by April Foolington.
