"The NHL Department of Player Safety had a hearing with Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin regarding his violent use of his stick against the Philadelphia Flyers. The league has revealed that Malkin has been suspended for one game for high-sticking Philadelphia Flyers forward Michael Raffl. It happened Monday night with 4:54 left in the third period and Malkin was kicked out of the game. Malkin claims he was reacting to a punch to the back of the head from Raffl. However it doesn't justify swinging his stick one-handed at the head of Flyers forward Michael Raffl.
He told Josh Yohe of The Athletic after the game that he did not expect to be suspended for the incident. "I didn't hit him in the face," Malkin said. "If I had touched him in the face, for sure, I would get suspended. It's a high stick, but it's not like I broke his face. I think I won't get suspended."
Malkin admitted it was a dirty play. What do you think of the NHL's decision?
