Flyers defenseman Nick Seeler has been one of the most captivating Flyers during the 2023-24 season. From his consistent defensive play, willingness to mix it up with opponents, and the high interest he has drawn in trade talks, Seeler has quickly become a fan favorite this season. As the trade deadline approaches, the Flyers are faced with the tough decision on whether to re-sign Seeler to a contract extension, or explore his market value. One NHL insider released his insight into the situation on Tuesday morning.
Recently, Nick Seeler's name has been thrown around multiple trade discussions as contenders like the Tampa Bay Lightning and Vancouver Canucks have shown interest in the Flyers defenseman. Teams are also exploring the option of acquiring Seeler and Sean Walker as a pair, as both have been dominant on the same line together this season.
NHL insider David Pagnotta released the latest news on the Seeler-Flyers situation this morning as he reported that the two parties have engaged in talks on an extension, but they remain far apart on an agreement.
The Flyers have already been quick this season to lock up guys they want to stick around for the future of the process, like Owen Tippett and Ryan Poehling who were extended during the All-Star break.
Although both sides have shown interest on signing an extension, it appears that Seeler wants a higher AAV and more years than the Flyers have initially offered. It is reported that the Flyers value Seeler at around $2.5 to $3M AAV per year.
Pagnotta also reported that among the two defensemen of Seeler and Walker, the Flyers are more inclined to part ways with Walker than Seeler.
With Seeler and the Flyers still remaining far apart in contract talks, will the Flyers be more open to trading him if the right deal comes?
