The Flyers season went much better than expected but fell short of a playoff spot after holding 3rd place in the division for 75 games.
Brière seems to be looking at improving the Flyers blueline for next season which already began at the deadline when he extended Nick Seller and traded for Jamie Drysdale just before that.
As the Flyers are now in the off-season, Brière will look at more options to increase the depth of their blueline. The Flyers GM has already mentioned that Marc Staal and Erik Johnson will not be returning as Brière wants a younger D-core.
The team will have just over $2.18 million to work with in cap space during free-agency but if they are willing to put Ryan Ellis on long term IR, this will free up $6.25 million in cap space.
The Flyers have just over $2.18 million in available salary cap space next season. More room could be made in putting defenceman Ryan Ellis on long-term injured reserve. This will give the team another $6.25 million of cap room to play with. It also seems like veterans like Marc Staal and Erik Johnson won't return to the club for the next season. Philadelphia wants to go younger with the defensive group and letting the experienced walk as of July 1 seems to be part of that plan. - Mount
Hopefully the Flyers will be able to make some solid moves this summer as they will need to fill some spots on their blueline and hope to strengthen it if they play on making the playoffs next year.
