As the trade deadline inches closer to March 8th, it's widely expected that general manager Danny Briere will be one of the busiest GM's in the NHL. The Flyers organization announced to the world last year that the team is in a full rebuilding mode and that many players will be available.
Those thoughts have been muddied recently as the team has been accelerating under John Tortorella and is now in sole possession of 3rd in the metro division and well entrenched in a playoff spot.
One player who continues to garner attention is Flyers centre Scott Laughton. Laughton has been having a solid season and showed tremendous leadership during the world championship game last year.
Indications have been showing that Flyers rival the New York Rangers are looking at Laughton as a potential replacement for their third line centre.
The Rangers are in a difficult position as they need to find a 3C due to the major injury to Filip Chytil and demotion of Nick Bonino. Laughton would certainly solidify their bottom 6 and would have term on his deal as he has $6 million remaining over the next two years.
It's safe to say that Briere will have to make a choice on whether to be a buyer and a seller and try to move the team forward in the playoffs or stick to the plan of the rebuild and sell off a portion of his roster to help them in the future.
