On Wednesday, March 6, the Philadelphia Flyers made possibly their biggest move of the trade deadline as they dealt defenseman Sean Walker in exchange for a first round pick as well as 31-year-old center Ryan Johansen. However, the Flyers cut ties with Johansen immediately following the trade. Monday, the Flyers gave an explanation for the move.

Establishing a culture has been one of the main focus points for first year front office leaders Danny Briere and Keith Jones, as they set out to turn the Flyers into contenders once again. As they cut ties with Johansen, it was reported by prominent NHL insider on the 32T Podcast that Johansen previously has had a tumultuous relationship with head coach John Tortorella.

»32 Thoughts: The #Flyers waived Ryan Johansen due to a complicated history with John Tortorella and feelings towards shared agent with Cutter Gauthier, Kurt Overhardt.

Not only have the two struggled with a relationship, but Johansen also shares an agent with Anaheim Ducks top prospect Cutter Gauthier, who was most recently traded by the Flyers after refusing to play for the organization. Possibly the agent also had something to do with the Flyers cutting ties with Johansen.

Johansen would have been a nice addition to the third or fourth line for the Flyers for a possible playoff run as Johansen is having a decent year thus far, posting 23 points on 10 goals and 13 assists.

Nevertheless, Danny Briere and Flyers management are sticking to their guns and showing that if a player isn't contributing to the culture of the Flyers, they're not going to be a Flyer.
