It's been a turbulent year the goaltenders of the Flyers as the team witnessed their starter being removed from their lineup likely for good and their backup goaltender Sam Ersson being thrusted into the starting role. Recently, Ersson states that he is very appreciative of Tortorella's trusting him this year.
The 24-year-old netminder had only played his second season with the Flyers and after being put into the starting role he had played 51 games, with a record of 23-19-7 his goals against were 2.82 and the save percentage of .890.
Even though the end of the season was disappointing but the Flyers missing the playoffs, it's safe to say that Ersson has put himself in their lineup for the next several seasons and will continue to build off this one as the Flyers continue to improve as a team.
