The Philadelphia Flyers took the ice at MetLife Stadium on Saturday night in front of 70,000 fans in New Jersey for the 2024 NHL Stadium Series. Despite the unfortunate 6-3 loss to the Devils, Flyers fans still had the opportunity to see their favorite underdogs on display on the national stage. One specific Flyer wasted no time getting involved in the action and firing up Flyers fans.
2024 NHL All-Star Travis Konecny has shown night in and night out, especially since the break, that he not only is an All-Star, but belongs in the conversation with the NHL's elite players. On Saturday night, Konecny brought the energy from the jump as he delivered a massive hit on Luke Hughes just seconds into the matchup.
Much like Claude Giroux's hit on Sidney Crosby on the infamous "the shift" in 2010, Konecny made a b-line for hughes after the faceoff and lowered his shoulder into the chest of Huges, and sent him flying into the boards right in front of the Devils bench.
Despite the energy and physical play from Konecny all night long, the Flyers were ultimately bested by their rivals thanks to a big second period from the Devils.
