MUST SEE: Flyers veteran applauds Tortorella

It is no secret that John Tortorella has singlehandedly turned the Philadelphia Flyers into contenders and gotten the most out of his players. Despite a bad reputation created by members of the media calling him a "mean coach", "stubborn", and "stuck in his own ways", the Flyers locker room has seemed to gravitate towards Tortorella, and embody his coaching through their play style. One Flyers veteran emphasized the impact that Tortorella has not only had on him personally, but the entire Flyers club.
Cam Atkinson has a long history with John Tortorella, having played for Torts in Columbus with the Blue Jackets. After getting off to a hot start last season under Tortorella, Atkinson has struggled to find his grove due to injuries. However, Atkinson has remained dedicated to the Flyers and specifically, Tortorella.
Before the 2024 Stadium Series, Atkinson talked about how Tortorella shows up for every one of his players and makes you want to play for him, but showing effort is what means the most to Torts.

"If you're not going to put the effort in with Torts, you're not going to play. He's the person who made my career for me. You're going to have ups and downs, but he's going to push you to be the best you can be."
Atkinson has had an up and down season, trying to get his feet under him, even having to take a game to just sit back, observe, and watch to refresh his mind. Nonetheless, Atkinson has remained steadfast in his preparation and Tortorella takes those kinds of things into account.
"I just think, everyone has bought into the ultimate goal and what we set out to do at the start of training camp. Torts expects us all to play a certain way, and if you're not gonna put the work in and give an effort day in and day out�that's one of Torts' non-negotiables�you're just not going to play."
The Flyers will have the first opportunity to put on a display on a national stage as they take the ice at MetLife Stadium for the 2024 Stadium Series tonight at 8:00p.m. EST.
