Goaltending has been a storyline throughout this NHL season as many teams continue to struggle to find quality goaltenders who will give them the stability in their nets.
Several prominent teams including the Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers and New Jersey Devils had been battling goaltender injuries and inconsistency for more than four months.
According to Elliotte Friedman of the 32 Thoughts Podcast, the Carolina Hurricanes decided to take a chance on former Columbus Blue Jackets goaltender Spencer Martin and claimed him on waivers.
Martin has bounced around the league as he has worked for four NHL organizations in four years. During this season, he has played thirteen games for the Columbus Blue Jackets and has a record of 3-8-1 with the goals against average of 3.65 and a save percentage of 887.
It remains to be seen if Martin can make a difference with the Hurricanes as this team has been pegged as a Stanley Cup contender and expects to go deep in the playoffs. But, they need all the help they can get and this player may be an option.
