Steven Stamkos, who will be a free agent in the summer, previously signed a team friendly deal with the Lightning so he could stay with the team in 2016. However, going into this off-season, the Lightning will only have 11 million dollars in cap space, and if they resign Stamkos a good portion of that cap space will go to his salary. Which means, this could be the end of Steven Stamkos in Tampa.
Steven Stamkos is now 34, however is on pace to have another 30 plus goal season. Now, the last time the Flyers signed a Lightning star in Vincent Lecavalier, it did not work out, however Lecavalier numbers in his final few years in Tampa are not nearly as good as Steven Stamkos right now.
Obviously, the big issue for the Flyers is their salary cap, as it stands, according to Cap Friendly, they only have a little over $500,00 in cap space, however that can all change in the offseason when moves are made. This doesn't sound like a Danny Briere type move; however, the Flyers are clearly closer in their rebuild than we all thought.
