The Philadelphia Flyers were on an eight-game losing streak which dropped them out of the playoffs. During the losing streak, the Flyers played NHL bottom of the standings teams. On Thursday night, the Flyers played the New York Rangers, who have the NHL best record, and the Flyers defeated the Rangers 4-1.
The New York Rangers lead the NHL with 110 points and is the team the Flyers end their losing streak to. The Flyers finished with a record of 1-2-1 against the Rangers. During the losing streak, the Flyers lost to teams, that include the Blue Jackets, Blackhawks and Canadiens, which included a 9-3 loss to the Canadiens. During the losing streak, the Flyers were outscored 42-18. Due to the Flyers losing to bad teams, it is not only surprising, that the Flyers ended their losing streak to the Rangers, but the Flyers' last victory prior to the losing streak, was against on the of the top teams in the NHL, the Boston Bruins.
With this victory, the Flyers have an outside chance of making the playoffs. The Flyers have 85 points and is tied with the Capitals and Red Wings and are one point behind the Pittsburgh Penguins for the final wild card, however, all three of these teams have one game in hand. The Flyers have two games remaining against the New Jersey Devils and Washington Capitals, so we will see very shortly, if the Flyers can make it into the playoffs.
