John Tortorella response when asked about Scott Laughton was "We weren't looking to move him, but you have to listen. I know there was interest, but I am thrilled he's still here." Prior to the deadline, Danny Brière stated that Laughton was not on the trading block and they were not actively shopping him, however he did state, we are willing to listen to offers. It seems the Flyers needed to get a
Sean Walker type trade package in either to move Scott Laughton at the trade deadline. When Flyers general manager was asked about not moving Laughton at the deadline, his response was "He's someone that brings people together. It would've been scary to let a guy go like that, especially in the situation that we're in that we're trying to make the playoffs." Now, it would have been nice to receive a 1st-round pick, like the the Flyers did for Sean Walker. However, even if they did, Scott Laughton would have been missed on and off the ice. He especially would have been missed on the penalty kill, as the Flyers currently have the number 1 penalty kill in the NHL at 86.6% and lead the league with short-handed goals with 14 and Laughton has 2 short-handed goals himself. For at least the remainder of this season, Scott Laughton will remain a Flyer.
