It was a bit of a shock to the NHL world when the Islanders decided to fire Barry Trotz after he failed to get an injury and covid riddled team to the playoffs last season.

Since he was fired, Trotz has been open about the fact that the only thing he is truly missing from his resume is the opportunity to coach for an "Original 6" team.
With his 914 career wins, which is good for 3rd most of all-time, you would think that teams would be calling, right?
Well, it seems he is getting calls, but not from the teams he would like. Here is a recent comment from him in regards to the situation:
Must read on FlyersInsider
"I don't know yet, I'm deciding. There's a couple teams that reached out and I said I'm not there yet. I'm probably going to take the rest of the year off and see where I am. It's still a part of me but I'm going to continue to stay true to myself and my family right now."
It makes sense if the right teams are calling because the "Original 6" teams are not necessarily looking to hire Trotz. He is not the type of coach to work with a rebuilding squad, so that eliminates the Blackhawks. He has also mentioned he wouldn't enjoy coaching for Toronto or Montreal, and with the Red Wings and Bruins just recently signing new head coaches, it seems the Rangers are the only fit right now.
The Rangers would be a good fit, but they don't seem to want to make any changes at the moment, considering they are playing solid hockey. If they do want to make a change, you can bet that Trotz will be the first man they call.
