Lindy Ruff has manned an NHL bench for the better part of 29 years, since close to 1993 and with each passing game he has learned and adopted a specific style that has earned him a role of having the reigns for an NHL team.
Before his coaching career - he played from 1979-1993, so his insights and know-how come from a long career and when he speaks, he demands respect.
"You know what, that play is just not even in our playbook. We talked this morning about getting pucks to the net, comes off the wall, one-times it, make a play like that,» said Ruff regarding what he told his squad. «They didn't have a chance in the period. I had just gone down the bench and just talked about making sure we create the chances that are there. That we don't make something high-risk. You get in a game like this, you might have to go to overtime, but to make that play, and trap the people, totally unacceptable."
Mistakes are bound to happen, but when a mistake that could have been avoided by simply following the coaches wishes happens, it's not surprising that the coach sounds off.
