In just three days, the NHL roster freeze will go into effect, prohibiting any players on active rosters or injured reserve from being dealt, released, or loaned from midnight on December 19 to midnight on December 27. There are a few exceptions to this rule, but generally speaking, teams want to make last-second plays.

In response, the Dallas Stars dealt defenseman Joseph Cecconi to the Buffalo Sabres for Oskari Laaksonen.
Laaksonen, who was selected 89th overall in the 2017 NHL Draft, has a promising game and has grown into a 6-foot-2, 185-pound defenseman.
Contrarily, Cecconi, who was selected 133rd overall by the Stars in 2015, has not yet proven successful.
Even though this is only an AHL minor league trade, both parties are hoping that a new environment would inspire their respective players' performances.
