Team Russia is off to a hot start for the 2022 winter Olympic Games held in Beijing this year. After two games against Switzerland and now Denmark, Russia is sitting atop of Group B with two shutouts.
If you've been keeping up with these games, the first thing anybody notices about Russia is their massive 6'8 beast, Ivan Fedotov. The goaltender stands nearly two meters tall and is also a Flyers prospect.
Russia still not conceded a single goal meaning that the Russian goaltender has recorded a perfect 2-0-0 record and two shutouts. Fedotov made 16 saves in a 2-0 win over Denmark and has stopped all the 49 shots he faced in this tournament. This means he holds the most shots saved in the tournament with a .100 SV%.
There has been a recent trend for bigger goalies in the NHL and teams are adjusting. Sebastian Cossa, a first round selection of the Red Wings and goalies like Ben Bishop and Pekka Rinne proved that size makes a difference.
Russia will play their final group game on Saturday Feb. 12 at 8:10 a.m. ET. Be sure to tune in to watch Fedotov and Russia advance to the knockouts.
