The NHL has officially revealed this years NHL trade deadline will take place on March 3rd 2023, Flyers fans should fear this date but also see a little bit of positive news possibly come out of it, why?

Well, the good news is James Vans Riemsdyk's $7 million dollar annual pay day will finally come to a stop just a short amount of time after the trade deadline, and he will officially be a free agent after the seasons over. Trade talks have surrounded JVR, and he could be a target that contending teams may want to acquire as a ''rental'' player for about 20 games before his contract expires, but of course nobody will not take on JVR if the Flyers do not retain salary in the trade.
Sad news, but also beneficial in a way is Ryan Ellis being placed on long-term injury reserve will free up plenty of cap space for the Flyers and give them room to potentially acquire a last minute addition for a playoff run *if they are in a good spot come March 3rd, 2022*.

The bad? Travis Sanheim's contract expires right when James Van Riemsdyk's does, Sanheim will be a UFA and will be able to freely choose his next destination whether that is the Flyers or any team that shows interest in the young evolving defenseman will be able to talk him into a contract. If the Flyers season is going bad by the trade deadline Sanheim may explore options elsewhere and vocalize a trade before the season ends to hop on a contender before he hits the free agent market.
Other notable Flyers may be on the move, and have contracts expiring on Justin Braun, Morgan Frost, and forward Zack MacEwen.
