Alexander Appleyard, pro scout and writer for The Athletic Philadelphia recently took to twitter to give his two cents on who the Flyers should target for next season.

He names Johnny Gaudreau as the number one player to target this offseason.
"While Gaudreau is an amazing player... and local... and I could not believe his draft year fell so far when should have, without hindsight, gone 1st round."

Gaudreau is on the last year of a six year 40,500,00 million dollar deal signed in 2016 making him a UFA come season's end. And while Appleyard didn't mention this name in his thread, Gaudreau's teammate Matthew Tkatchuk is going to be a RFA come season's end too.

Given organizational needs and strengths along with the cap situation however, Appleyard believes it is more feasible and realistic to look at players such as Ryan Strome or Vincent Trocheck.
"@NHLFlyers might be better served, given cap restrictions and team strengths/weaknesses, getting Strome or Trocheck. #Flyers"

Assuming he's speaking about UFA Ryan Strome and not his brother Dylan, the deal could see Strome slotting in as the team's second line center. Same with Trocheck who can play on the wing too.
Trocheck is almost one hundred percent confirmed to be leaving Carolina. With the extension of Jesperi Kotkaniemi to an eight-year extension, Trocheck's replacement has been found. At a cheaper cost too. He will surely be on a new team come July.
Here's what the team could look like. Stay reminded that all of this depends on if Chuck Fletcher can move JVR's contract.
Strome has 45 points in 62 games whereas Trocheck has 46 in 67. Johnny Hockey has 90 points in 66 games played. Absolutely disgusting.
