With the conclusion of the enjoyable days in the sun, both the Flyers and the rest of the NHL must now shift their focus to business matters. As September arrives, conversations in the hockey world center around the Flyers' training camp and the potential candidates who could secure spots for the upcoming season.

The Flyers boast several contenders for these positions, particularly among their past draft picks who are now poised to transition into NHL players. This evolution is especially prominent given the current rebuilding phase that the Flyers are undergoing.
Abundant opportunities and time exist for these prospects to showcase their capabilities and contributions to Head Coach John Tortorella and his supporting staff.
Among these prospects, Flyers forward Tyson Foerster and goaltender Sam Ersson stand out as two locks, as they make significant strides toward securing regular positions on the team in the coming season. After the previous year, Foerster effectively demonstrated his scoring prowess, amassing seven points in eight games played.

His acute game sense and proficiency in five-on-five situations were particularly commendable. Additionally, his standout performance as an All-Star during the 2022-2023 season, along with his 48 points achieved with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, solidify the certainty that he is well-prepared for the NHL. Anticipating a full season alongside the Flyers this year appears to be a realistic expectation for Foerster.
Ersson, on the other hand, revealed his ability to contend for the backup position behind Carter Hart. Standing at 6 feet 2 inches and weighing 176 pounds, the 23-year-old goaltender was selected by the Flyers in the fifth round, 143rd overall, in the 2018 draft.
Throughout twelve games, he secured ten game starts, resulting in six wins and three losses. His goals-against average of 3.07 and a save percentage of .899, including one shutout, paint a promising picture. It is important to acknowledge that Ersson's performance could be even stronger considering the current shortcomings of the Flyers' defence.
It is foreseeable that he will serve as the backup to Hart, playing a complete season and enabling the team to thoroughly assess his readiness for the NHL.
The impending period promises excitement for both Foerster and Ersson. They will undoubtedly be granted ample opportunities to exhibit their potential, ultimately contributing to the Flyers' ability to secure victories and sustain competitive performances on a nightly basis.
