General manager Danny Briere, along with his management team, has been busy this summer, initiating the process of rebuilding the Flyers and turning the page on previous editions that were riddled with failures and flaws.

As numerous prospects and rookies begin to enter the Flyers' lineup, some of the previous players, especially their veterans, will be leaned on heavily to help win more games and provide mentorship to the younger players.
Other players will be important in maintaining their presence and fulfilling their contracts while contributing as much as possible in terms of goals and assists. One player in question is Cam Atkinson.
Atkinson, who missed the entire previous season due to injury, had an encouraging first year with the Flyers after coming from the Columbus Blue Jackets. He played 73 games that year, scoring 23 goals and recording 27 assists for a total of 50 points, which ranked second on the team.

However, his training camp last year was marred by a strange injury, and he experienced an unusual sensation near his neck. Consequently, he had to undergo neck surgery to correct the problem, which sidelined him for the entire year.
Now that he has fully recovered, Atkinson will be relied upon by head coach John Tortorella to spearhead the team's offence. Having signed a seven-year, $41 million deal during his time in Columbus, at an annual salary of $5.8 million, the Flyers' coaching staff expects him to surpass his 50-point performance from his first season with the Flyers.
Although expectations may be tempered as he readjusts to the game, I anticipate that he will play a significant role in the middle-six position and should contribute solid offence to the team.
