This process involves placing players on waivers, a move that allows other teams to potentially claim them, adding intrigue to the upcoming season.
As of today, a total of 42 players have been subjected to waivers by various teams, including the likes of the Carolina Hurricanes, Detroit Red Wings, New York Islanders, and the Washington Capitals.
While scanning the list, it becomes evident that several notable names are available, presenting opportunities for teams in need. Additionally, some selections for waivers raise eyebrows due to their unexpected nature.

One such surprise is the appearance of Wade Allison from the Philadelphia Flyers on the waiver wire. While he was expected to secure a spot on the main roster, his recent struggles, mainly due to injuries, have raised concerns. Drafted by the Flyers in 2016, Allison managed to play only 60 games last season, contributing 15 points.
Another noteworthy inclusion is Nicolas Aube-Kubel from the Washington Capitals, who was part of the Stanley Cup-winning Colorado Avalanche just over three years ago. As well as Oskar Lindblom and more...His journey took an unexpected turn when he signed a one-year, $1 million deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs, eventually leading to his trade to Washington. However, it's clear that Aube-Kubel has yet to find his stride with the Capitals, as indicated by his placement on waivers.
As NHL fans eagerly anticipate the start of the new season, they'll keep a close eye on the waiver wire, wondering if any other surprises lie ahead in the final countdown to puck drop.
