It's safe to say that Rasmus Ristolainen's career with the Flyers has been tumultuous since he arrived from the Buffalo Sabres. After completing a season with the team and securing a new five-year, $25.5 million contract extension from former general manager Chuck Fletcher, Risto's fortunes began to change.

The turning point came when the newly appointed head coach, John Tortorella, arrived, and both men faced challenges in finding common ground to improve Risto's game. After several weeks, they were pleased with each other's work, and Risto began to flourish, ultimately becoming the Flyers' number one defenseman.
Injuries have plagued the 29-year-old defenseman, significantly impacting his time with the Flyers. It now appears that he has suffered another injury and has been placed on long-term injury reserve, freeing up $5.1 million in cap space.
While the fan base remains uncertain about the extent of Risto's injury, history with other players on long-term injury reserve suggests that it may be quite severe, and he might be sidelined for an extended period.
This situation also raises the possibility that the Flyers could face another contract similar to Ryan Ellis's. Ellis is also on the injured reserve and carries a $6.25 million cap hit until 2026-2027. This was not what the Flyers had in mind, and we can only hope that Risto can make a swift return."
