Hockey fans were more then happy this off-season to hear that the NHL's salary cap would ''likely'' be skyrocketing by a large amount for next years NHL season, Bettman revealed that players' escrows were at a record high, and if they were to all be paid back that a substantial cap raise would be given, which would not only benefit contending teams who are tight on cap, but also those rebuilding teams who still have those hefty contracts.

Sadly enough false hope was given once again, and Gary Bettman revealed disappointing news.
Gary Bettman says #NHL is now projecting a $70m remaining escrow balance at the end of the season, which would result in the salary cap rising just $1 million this summer to $83.5 million.

Not willing to say now whether a negotiation with #NHLPA for larger increase is possible.
This is quite the disappointing news as this is a fraction of what was expected to be added to the NHL's salary cap, but hey- at least it's something.. right?
