The PWHL's foundation draws from the legacy of two existing organizations: the Premier Hockey Federation (formerly known as the National Women's Hockey League) and the Professional Women's Hockey Players Association. Under the leadership of Mark Walter Group and BJK Enterprises, both leagues' player pools have merged, fostering a stronger platform for women athletes. Board of directors member and Dodgers president Stan Kasten expressed excitement about providing a platform for elite women athletes. The PWHL aims to captivate sports fans in six passionate hockey markets across North America.
Ushering in a New Era
As the league prepares to take flight, the Toronto Six's history as reigning PHF champions adds to the anticipation. Although team details remain forthcoming, PWHL senior vice president Jayna Hefford emphasized the league's potential to elevate women's hockey to new heights, fueled by surging enthusiasm and demand for women's sports.
With this exciting launch, the PWHL looks ahead to a promising future, contributing to the growth and recognition of women's hockey.
