NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman has laid down the law to all team's players and and coaches when it comes to in his words "Abuse of officials." So you knew after Florida Panthers Head Coach Paul Maurice would call out NHL Official Francois St. Laurent claiming he had personal issues with Maurice, some punishment was going to be laid.

We knew Maurice would be in trouble. Maurice questioned how the Panthers were penalized 7 times in the first 40 minutes of the game were the Leafs would pick up a 5-4 overtime win.
Today the NHL has announced that Maurice has been fined $25,000 by the League for abuse of officials. Here is what Maurice said and the video after the game.
After the game Maurice would comment on the officiating saying:

"I just explained to them it had nothing to do with my players. Maurice said, "It has to do with a relationship I have with one of the referees.

That's what it's all about. There will always be penalties that you take in a game here," suggesting favoritism to the Leafs. "But there is a whole lot you're not going to like at all. We had the inordinate share of those described calls..

"I don't know what the hell those were doing tonight. It certainly wasn't Florida Panthers friendly."

- Paul Maurice

We hope that NHL officials have a hidden agenda but this is the 3rd time Coaches have questioned the officiating vs the Toronto Maple Leafs alone. If the higher market teams are getting favorable calls this is something that needs to be investigated. Let the players win the games not the officials.
