This weekend features one of the most exciting weekends for hockey fans as NHL All-Star weekend kicks off in Toronto, home of the Hockey Hall-of-Fame. As the 2024 Skills Competition is set to start on Friday night, a new format has resulted in a Flyers star being left out of the competition.

This season the NHL altered the skills competition as previously, 44 players would compete in the skills challenge as each team would have a representative in the seven different competitions.
In 2024 however, the NHL changed it to just 12 players spread out through seven events to narrow it down to just the NHL's elite competing on hockey's biggest individual stage. Unfortunately for Flyers fans, this results in All-Star Travis Konecny being left out of the 2024 Skills Challenge.

The events in the skills competition include; fastest skater, hardest shot, stick handling, one timers, passing challenge, accuracy shooting, shootout, and the obstacle course. Some of the top players competing include Nikita Kucherov, Cale Makar, Auston Matthews, Connor McDavid and Quinn Hughes.
Although Konecny is left out of the skills competition, the Flyers 2024 All-Star still makes history as he becomes just the 26th player in franchise history to earn multiple All-Star appearances. In 2024, Konecny is focused on soaking in every moment and connecting with the other All-Stars in Toronto.
"I'm really looking forward to the All-Star Game. The last time I was [22 years old], I was nervous going into the game. I definitely will soak it in a little bit more this time."
