Canadiens and Carey Price expected to part ways

It seems like the Montreal Canadiens and franchise goaltender will soon part ways with one another. NHL analyst and insider Elliotte Friedman reported on his 32 thoughts podcast that if Carey Price does come back to play this year, chances are he's gone by next season.

"If Carey Price comes back and plays, then I think there's a chance he's playing somewhere else next year. If he doesn't come back and play, then where are we?"

Ultimately what it comes down to is a situation like the Flyers had with Claude Giroux. If there was any indication that the team wanted to part ways, last offseason should have been an eye opener. They almost lost him for nothing to the Seattle Kraken.

"I see it being extremely difficult for him to get traded if he doesn't play a game between now and the end of the season. If he does get into a few games then I can see the possibility of it."

Price is now 34 years old and hasn't had any NHL action since the team's trip last year to the Stanley Cup Final.

"I could see Carey Price coming back and playing somewhere else, I could see Carey Price riding off into the sunset.Think about all the things he's already done."

Price's Trophy cabinet includes a World Junior Gold, Olympic Gold, 7x All Star, William M. Jennings Trophy, Vezina Trophy, Ted Lindsay Award, Hart Trophy, Lou Marsh Award and a 2016 World Cup.

Alluding to Shea Weber, Elliotte asks if there's any chance the same thing happens with Carey Price.

"It all comes down to his body."

The Canadiens will have the opportunity to draft, most likely within the top 5 this summer in front of their home crowd. Depending on the nature of the rebuild, we could see Price in another sweater sooner than we think.
