Chuck Fletcher must avoid making this big mistake

This year, the free agency class is a little bit underwhelming. Of course, there's good players that could be on it like Filip Forsberg, Nazem Kadri, Claude Giroux, Kristopher Letang or Evgeni Malkin. They are all good players, but the majority of them are pretty old.

But even for those who are in their "prime" like Kadri, is it really a good idea to offer them a 6-7 years contract with a huge cap hit attached to it? Kadri registered 87 points this season with great players around him. Can he do the same with another team like the Flyers?

I don't think so. Before having a 87 point campaign this year, the best season he had offensively was in 2016-17 with the Toronto Maple Leafs where he registered 61 points in 82 games.

Yes, Fletcher must improve his lineup, but he will have to be extremely careful with the deal he will give to big players.

Let's now talk a little bit about Claude Giroux. He will also probably be without a contract on the first day of free agency so he'll have the choice to go pretty much anywhere he want. But a return to Philadelphia isn't a good idea for both parts. A page has been turned when he was traded and the Flyers just have to move on...
