A few days ago marked the anniversary of the Flyers trading away Claude Giroux. Today, the Flyers visit Ottawa to face Giroux, and we will analyze the deal, and state the clear winner.

While some fans may still have mixed emotions about the trade, it's clear that Tippett has become a valuable asset for the Flyers. In fact, he's been named the team's MVP for the past two months, especially with the absence of forward Travis Konecny due to injury.
TRADE BREAKDOWN:
Must read on FlyersInsider
To Florida:
-Claude Giroux
-Connor Bunnaman (AHL)
-German Rubstov (prospect)
To Philadelphia:
-Owen Tippett
-2024 first-round draft pick
-2023 third-round draft pick
At first glance, many Flyers fans and media were furious with Chuck Fletcher making this deal. But one year later, it appears as if the Flyers stole that trade from the Florida Panthers.. but how?
Ironically, Claude Giroux, who wears #28, went on to play a very little amount of regular season games for the Panthers (18), and only played (10) playoff games before the Panthers got knocked out after getting demolished (28 total games). Owen Tippett, the Florida Panthers best prospect in their system, who earned AHL rookie of the year, was traded away for 28 games of Claude Giroux...
The Panthers also coughed up their 2024 first round pick which holds a ton of value, and their 2023 third round pick which is a solid pick, but not nearly worth as much as Owen Tippett or the 2024 first rounder. To add, Owen Tippett into that deal, the Philadelphia Flyers shouldn't be anymore thankful to receive a return like so, the Panthers forked up a ton of value to use Claude Giroux as a rental, where he then chose to not re-sign, and signed with his hometown team the Ottawa Senators.
Clear winner: The Flyers
Clear loser: The Panthers
Although the majority of the Flyers fan base was not happy about Giroux leaving Philadelphia, they were losing him to free agency regardless, may as well get value.. a ton of value, am i right? Tippett is just 24 years of age and has smashed his career-high point totals so far this season under John Tortorella, and their is still 25 games left in the season.
