Claude Giroux recently discussed the Alex DeBrincat situation on TSN 1200 radio, revealing that the team foresaw his departure.

"We kind of saw it coming," Giroux said. "It was his decision and we all enjoyed playing with Alex. He didn't want to be here. He didn't see himself here for the next eight years. So that's the business side of hockey that's not really fun. But it is what it is. Now we're going to move on."

DeBrincat refused a long-term extension with the Senators, leading to a trade with the Detroit Red Wings. The trade involved Dominik Kubalik, Donovan Sebrango, a conditional first-round pick, and a fourth-round pick in 2024. DeBrincat signed a four-year deal worth $7.875 million per season with Detroit.
On October 21st, he'll return to Ottawa, and fans are eager to see the love or hate he'll receive. Despite enjoying their time with DeBrincat, Giroux acknowledges the business aspect of hockey and looks ahead to the future.
