We pretty much knew that it was going to happen, but the Flyers made it official today: Daniel Brière has been named special assistant to the general manager.

Let's remind ourselves that not that long ago, Brière was interviewing for the GM position in Montreal.
Brière will act as a special consultant. You could also put your money on the fact that he'll be the first choice of the team to become GM when Chuck Fletcher is gone.

It's a smart move for the Flyers. Brière knows very well the city and the organisation. He was more recently the president and governor of the Maine Mariners in the ECHL.
"Philadelphia is a place that I've called home for a long time and have had some of the most memorable moments in my career. I want to thank Chuck Fletcher and Dave Scott for their confidence and support over the last several years, and I look forward to helping them continue to build a successful team on and off the ice", said Daniel Brière.
Brière played 364 regular season games with the Flyers, recording 283 points during that span.
