During this rebuilding phase, the Flyers have swiftly restructured their lineup through trades and buyouts. General Manager Danny Briere wasted no time in moving away from beleaguered defenseman Ivan Provorov and centerman Kevin Hayes. This move aimed to rebalance the team, create additional cap space, and acquire assets and draft picks.

One recent move involved buying out Tony DeAngelo. However, Jamey Baskow, in a recent tweet, expressed confusion over the Flyers' decision to buy out fan favourite Oskar Lindblom. Lindblom was drafted by the Flyers in the fifth round, 138th overall, in 2014, and spent five seasons with the team.
During that time, he was working to develop his offensive skills when he received the devastating news that he had contracted cancer.

After successfully battling cancer, he returned to the Flyers but struggled to regain his previous form as a player. On July 12, 2022, former General Manager Chuck Fletcher announced that Lindblom was placed on the waiver to buy out the final year of his contract, which held an annual value of $3 million AAV.
As a result of the buyout, Lindblom now carries a cap hit of $666,667 for the upcoming season. It raises the question: are the Flyers regretting their decision to buy him out, especially considering he was a fan favourite who made a remarkable recovery from cancer? In the current rebuilding phase, could he have been a valuable player to keep in the lineup and aid the team's process?
It's challenging to determine if they truly regret the decision, but it's worth considering that Lindblom played 73 games with the San Jose Sharks this year, another team in a rebuilding phase.
Unfortunately, his performance was not stellar, as he only managed to score six goals and record nine assists, resulting in 15 points and a -16 plus/minus rating.
These numbers are certainly far from impressive.
