The Philadelphia Flyers have signed goaltender Samuel Ersson to a two-year contract extension, with a $1.45 million cap hit starting in the 2024-25 season.

Despite this signing, it does not affect Carter Hart's starting goaltending role in Philadelphia. The Flyers' confidence in Ersson's potential is evident, but with limited NHL experience, his cap hit may come as a surprise, he will be a solid backup for Hart and will push Hart to be better, and if not, Ersson could very well steal the #1 spot if his stellar play from last season can keep up.
However, the team believes he can be a full-time NHL netminder. Ersson's performance in his first 12 NHL appearances showed promise, and if he continues to improve and make an impact, this signing could prove to be a valuable move for the Flyers.
