The Montreal Canadiens General Manager Kent Hughes has proved he's not afraid of making moves despite being a brand new GM.
This included the 2022 NHL Entry Draft when Hughes would stun the world drafting Juraj Slafkovsky over Shane Wright. Hughes had a plan that we would learn later that he traded Alex Romanov to the New York Islanders for picks. Hughes would use the picks plus another to trade to the Chicago Blackhawks for Kirby Dach.
Dach is currently a RFA with the Montreal Canadiens, and we haven't heard much about contract talks and Hughes plans if it will be a short or long term deal. The Canadiens have -$6,321,666 in cap space right now according to capfriendly.com.
While Dach has not yet reached his potential in the NHL on a terrible Chicago Blackhawks team maybe the change to a young Canadiens team will be what Dach needs. As for his contract talks Elliote Freidman on his 32 thoughts podcast shared the following:

"Don't assume three (years), don't assume two, don't assume four. It could be several ideas or concepts around those lines." - Elliotte Friedman
What do you think they should do with Dach, long term or short term?
