Elite defenseman Erik Karlsson, who was selected by Ottawa and played there for many years, left the city despite massive expectations that he would stay. Karlsson was moved to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for draft picks, but those picks ultimately came back to haunt San Jose as the Senators used the picks they received in exchange for Karlsson to choose players like Tim Stutzle and Josh Norris.

Karlsson has already stated that he would love to play in the postseason, and he and the Sharks have reached an agreement on it. Now that San Jose is far from a playoff berth, it appears like Karlsson is ready to hit the trade market.
The main problem is his contract; through 20272028, Karlsson will earn $11.5 million year, which is just $1 million less than Connor McDavid's salary.
NHL source Frank Seravalli has revealed Erik Karlsson's asking price, and it is extremely awful, but it completely sounds like something Flyers Chuck Fletcher would entertain.

The San Jose Sharks are asking for 3 first-round picks, and are willing to retain 18% of Erik Karlsson's contract in exchange of a trade
This will NOT be doable for many playoff teams, this is nearly the same as the PK Subban situation dating back to this summer where not many takers may be interested in their abilities, for the hefty price.
