Flyer's Prospect's Family Receives Tough News
Every year, as I watch the NHL draft, I am filled with joy and happiness, witnessing young hockey players having their dreams fulfilled. The sight of them embracing their parents and siblings brings a smile to my face, knowing that the entire family has played a significant role in their journey.
From driving them to early morning practices to embarking on road trips to support their games, and staying together in hotel rooms, the family's support is invaluable.
There are even players who have family members working in the NHL, who get the unique opportunity to witness their child being drafted while managing a draft table.
This exact scenario unfolded in Nashville this year, as Trent Mann, the assistant general manager of the Ottawa Senators, watched his son, Mateo Mann, become a Flyers player in the seventh round.

Since Mateo was a part of the draft, the Senators decided to interview him, and he explained to NHL.com how the process worked.
"It was a little weird because he came out, got me, and told me to go in, while he sat in the chair outside the room," Mateo told NHL.com. The roles were reversed, which was quite amusing. The interview mainly focused on my game, and some teams even made jokes about it, highlighting the special nature of our presence together."
Mateo, an 18-year-old defenseman born in Sackville, NB, stands tall at 6 feet 6 inches and weighs 229 pounds. He was drafted in the seventh round as the 199th overall choice. Given his impressive physical stature, he is expected to become a shutdown defenseman in the bottom pairings for the Flyers shortly.
While this time of year should be joyous for the family, as their son was drafted by an NHL organization, they received some unfortunate news.
The Ottawa Senators and Trent decided to part ways, despite Trent being only one year into his job. This change came about due to the Senators' recent acquisition of new ownership through Michael Andlauer and a subsequent shift in direction.
