Flyers GM explains the expanded role of Tortorella?
During the summer of 2022, then assistant general manager Danny Breer helps decide the hiring of head coach John Tortorella. Both Briere and former general manager Chuck Fletcher felt that Tortorella was the best person for the job going into this season. Tortorella brings out many great qualities for his players to play the game the way he sees fit.
Fast forward to 2023, with Briere now in charge of the Flyers has great admiration for the head coach and wanted to clarify with Frank Seravalli of the daily faceoff that Torts still has a burning desire to be the head coach.
Several thoughts were going around the web and including my thoughts that Tortorella may be looking for a greater role with the Flyers.
He was seen for many games in the press box with Briere and watching the games while having chats with their GM. Breer himself explains that torts will have a greater role in the team, however, there is no indication that he will become president of hockey operations at this time.
I will wait and see whether this is the case, as I do believe that Torts wants a greater role with the organization and help build a legacy with the Flyers of a winning culture. If this is the case this is what the Flyers need going forward as it's been dreadful for the last number of decades.
