Flyers Surprise Fans with Goalie Announcement
The NHL season is only two days away, with the Flyers hitting the road to face the Columbus Blue Jackets. Teams have until Monday to make decisions about who will go through waivers and who will remain with the team. It appears that the Flyers have made a surprising decision regarding their goaltending.
It was widely expected that Felix Sandstrom, who appears to be third on the depth chart, would remain with the team instead of being placed on waivers.
It seems that the Flyers are not yet prepared to put him on waivers, as they would lose him for nothing if another team were to pick him up. There is currently a market for goaltending, as some teams are dealing with injuries or goaltenders not meeting expectations.
If the Flyers believe they want to keep him on the team, they might be better off moving one of their waiver-exempt players, Bobby Brink or Emil Andrae.
Bobby Brink has earned at least a look for the next several games during the regular season, and I believe Andrae will be heading down to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
